New 2020 Cognitive CPT Codes!

Attention! Attention! If you are an SLP currently billing CPT code G0515 for cognitive intervention there are important coding changes quickly heading our way!


Per the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), effective on January 1st, 2020, our current CPT code G0515 will be deleted and replaced with the following cognitive codes:

• "CPT code 97129 - Therapeutic interventions that focus on cognitive function (e.g., attention, memory, reasoning, executive function, problem solving, and/or pragmatic functioning) and compensatory strategies to manage the performance of an activity (e.g., managing time or schedules, initiating, organizing and sequencing tasks), direct (one-on-one) patient contact; initial 15 minutes"                                                                                     - CMS

• "CPT code 97130 - Therapeutic interventions that focus on cognitive function (eg, attention, memory, reasoning, executive function, problem solving, and/or pragmatic functioning) and compensatory strategies to manage the performance of an activity (e.g., managing time or schedules, initiating, organizing and sequencing tasks), direct (one-on-one) patient contact; each additional 15 minutes (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure)"          -CMS
